Delain - April Rain
Holland has already been enchanted by their special concoction of symphonic gothic rock. Now the young guns of Delain are ready to rock the rest of Europe and…The World.
The client: Roadrunner Records
The briefing: Design an ambitious style to match an ambitious band’s ambitious second album. Make it like, totally new. But don’t alienate the fans. Get it?
The result: The basic theme for the April Rain album: drops. What else. Because the theme of the album is ‘good vs. bad’ and the balance between the two. So we decided to photograph black and white drops of ink under water. The resulting shapes are like the music: equally tough and ominous.
For the European market we decided to go a slightly other way. The entire band is photographed standing in water this time so new fans can see immediately what kind of band this is, who’s in it and what will blast through the speakers if they press play. Of course the lead singers long wavy hair and the splashes and droplets of water match the rest of the artwork.
